I have worked consistently with Laina doing Pilates for approximately seven months. When I started I had no core strength at all. After three abdominal surgeries and numerous injuries I was not sure I could ever gain strength and flexibility again. I am delighted to say that I have improved my strength and flexibility to a great degree in a safe, non-stressful way. I began working with Laina about 9 months ago as part of my recovery from a bad ski accident. I had broken my pelvis and aggravated an existing disc problem in my lower back. Prior to my work with Laina I had been unable to ski, golf or garden. Plus I was impossibly uncomfortable sitting at work. I am now back on the slopes, out on the links and busy in the garden.
The core strength and balance that I have gained from Pilates has been truly amazing. I'm in better shape now than I had ever been prior to my injuries. I am also so much more aware of my posture now that I can feel when it is poor and correct myself. I can't emphasize enough just how valuable Laina's breadth of knowledge and her warm, caring attitude have been to my continuing improvement. Laina and Pilates are a fantastic combination.

Initially I started working with Laina to rehabilitate a shoulder injury. After about 1 month, 2 X per week, my shoulder felt stronger and more stable than before the injury. Laina is very knowledgeable and patient in her approach to rehabilitating injuries. I started seeing Laina in the fall of 2003 for physical therapy prescribed by my physician for fibromyalgia, lower back pain (sciatica) and several bulging discs. I could hardly walk and I was in so much pain! The soles of my feet burned and I had searing pain in my back and down my legs. We started slowly and I continued to work with Laina 2 X per week and followed a home exercise program that she prescribed at home daily. I am now doing things that I haven't done in 5 years! I am now able to walk in the mall for hours pain free! I can do normal day to day activities without pain, so now I can function again. I feel so much stronger in the long term.
